Aurora last night! (3 July, before moonrise)

Seen in southern New Mexico at 33N latitude.

The camera showed faint aurora activity as soon as twilight ended, very low elevation. I set up the camera take exposures as I slept. This was the best one at 10:49PM local time (Mountain Daylight).

Happy 4th of July!

A wide angle time exposure of the night sky looks north and slightly east. The sky is mostly clear, but some cirrus are present. The lower left quadrant of the frame shows red/pink aurora. Above that area is rather faint blue aurora. Trees make black silhouettes.

The familiar "W" asterism of Cassiopeia is in the lower right corner.
