kinda surprising that we skipped right over fire as a potential solution. would've cost too much to write a scene around it, maybe.

Hi, I'm James. Eternal dilettante and purveyor of nonsense, much of it about #Python, physics, and #cycling. I tend to info-dump about #Unicode if you get me started. I take part in #Monsterdon most Sundays at 9 PM ET. I try not to boost posts without alt text.

ahaha, of course. it's 1958, so the solution to the problem the heroes are having is going to be… electricity!

I like this no-nonsense mining character. I think I'd rather see him in a more interesting movie.

I like the spider noises. They are ridiculous, but those are pretty good "monster makes scary noises" noises

"at least the town's safe"
yea, great. wouldn't want there to be any excitement or stakes in this paint-by-numbers monster movie.

that was a pretty dang good car crash stunt. I guess it helps that every car was functionally a tank in this era

@johnzajac @aburka RIP Isaac Asimov you would have hated this stuff
"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'"

Fireworks in #Boston as viewed from Telegraph Hill. Less-than-ideal view of the Pops show, but lots of visibility on all the (illegal and extra-unwise on account of the severe drought) fireworks over Dorchester, and even some within launched from within a 5-block radius.
