National Mall Scene Gets Chaotic As Severe Weather Call Disrupts July Fourth Plans Aishvarya Kavi, a reporter for the New York Times, said several hundred people initially refused to leave the National Mall even after the Secret Service ordered everyone to evacuate the premises due to approaching inclement weather. Some in the crowd chanted "U.S.A." and one man called the evacuation orders "baloney." Several other reporters who are on the Mall provided updates on security. Kellie Meyer from NewsNation said everyone had evacuated the secure perimeter set up ahead of President Donald Trump's speech scheduled for tonight, and would have to be rescreened in order to reenter that area. MS Now's Vaughn Hillyard said Secret Service had dismantled some of the machines used for security screening
