This July 4th reminds me that I only learned a few years ago that the Statue of Liberty is an anti-slavery monument created by a French abolitionist back in 1865 to celebrate emancipation, so I tell my little cousins about the broken chains at her feet any chance I get.

Fair enough. I didn't go to school in the US either. In fact, my school was some 300 km away from Helsinki.
Yet, ironically, the average person raised on Hollywood movies probably knows US geography and basic history better than their own. Guess that's just the power of cultural export.
