unfortunately it's going to take more than just a change in administration - 74M voted for this, and until there's confidence this won't be repeated, there will be hesitation vis-a-vis the US in all areas.
I know that "electoral reform" is a forbidden topic south of the border, but it would go a long way to building trust abroad. To ensure that all candidates get at least 50% of the popular vote, even if it takes more than one round, would go a long way. The final tally, iirc, left trump with less than 50% of the vote this time around.
to be fair, there's a rising problem around the world with people who're letting perfection get in the way of progress, and solid concrete steps in the right direction just "aren't good enough" which is doesn't help anyone in the end.
