I was fifteen in 1976. I remember well the dawn choruses of that time. Now I just want to weep with the sadness of its loss to modern society.

@robtherunt I am in rural North Wales at present. A lot of birds but only one blackbird at dawn and during the day - bar the hungry sparrows just leaving the nest.

I love blackbird song. It’s the best. And sparrows always cheer me up.

@robtherunt at 4am? The sparrow squark not the prettiest but they nest here every year and are welcome.

I will never complain about any bird song (or whatever sound they make). Once they’ve gone, that’s it and the world will be a poorer place.

@robtherunt I miss skylarks. Loads 60 or 70 years ago. Haven’t heard one in years.
