someone should make a console that's just a bunch of ATX computer parts of any kind and any linux distro that runs steam

to buy it you just buy a PC and install linux and set Steam to start in big picture mode at startup

it'll run faster than windows for less simply because windows games run faster on linux anyway and you don't have to get a windows license

you can get physical media for it by attaching a DVD drive or some slot with an NFC reader that starts games

(I know this is an old joke but I also don't get why people are willingly buying into a serf ecosystem that entirely consists of companies doing mental gymnastics to make it look like you're saving money when if you look at the whole ecosystem you do the opposite.

and if you're doing it 'for the exclusives' then you're basically just making sure they'll keep them exclusive since people keep buying them. Sony literally said they'll stop making PC ports techpowerup.com/346886/insider , so thanks)

modern game consoles are just intentionally broken x86 computers that should die, and I will die on this hill.

imagine all that hardware would've been available for the PC market instead, instead of inevitably turning into e-waste whenever they decide to pull the plug on their now exclusively online ecosystems.

also you can bet your ass they will continue making it worse. every system like this demands infinite year-on-year income growth.

f*ck modern game consoles, they should not exist.
