Lainasin kirjan "Now Jazz Now : 100 Essential Free Jazz & Improvisation Recordings 1960–80".

Tom Prehn Axiom
test pressing - Sonet (Denmark, 1963) SLP 1900

A forgotten and lost masterpiece of Creative Free Jazz. FREE jazz. FREE JAZZ. Danish. Free Jazz. As shocking as the fact might be for people who believe all Creative Jazz was first explored and invented in America and Southern Europe, some of the most serious experimentation of the early 1960s was actually done in Denmark. A strong, unpolished urge to embrace freedom existed in the land of open-faced sandwiches and wild bicycle behavior.

Rune Grammofon finally put this baby out on viny in 2016, fifty-two years after it was recorded! Two copies of a test pressing were made before the original release was stopped by the group. Prehn and company felt they had already moved on musically and there was no need for this music to be released! Shocking! The Chicago-based label Corbett vs Dempsey found this music on a dusty Sonet test pressing, and released the sounds for the first time on CD in 2015. This album is as fresh as it gets.

Beginning with basic Jazz elements, the band transforms everything into a crazy mirror of freedom. The music is sensationally free from restriction. You can hear and feel the naked exploration involved in the group's process, illustrated by the members' interactions. Fritz Krogh's free tenor sax playing is a trip. He blows hard, tearing down prejudices with his reed storm, remolding it all into a beautiful COLLECTIVE gush. All instruments contribute equally to non-hierarchical waves of music, in which free moving densities interact with slabs of freedom and poetry.

This beautiful object has in its original test pressing form, a printed cover on thick, yummy cardboard that smells goooooooood. The thick vinyl with its bright red Sonet labels makes my mouth water and my mind expand!

This is a true holy grail. We know that there are many grails around (in the mind of a discaholic there seem to be a need to create GRAILS,) but good luck finding one of the two existing test pressings of this one. (MG)

Vuonna 2020 ilmestyneen kirjan nimen on suomalaisen helppo muistaa, "Kissa By Kissa".
