At our high school, for two years in a row, we had NO students pick the "advanced" mathematics stream (locally called Specialist Maths).
I explained in various ways why this was. So then, this year, someone asked me to put "my money where my mouth is". So I said sure, give me some of the Year 10 math students (the year they're making their choices) for one period a week but...
1. It's release from their regular maths class (no extra time commitment).
