Finally got a close shot of this shifty rascal, it's been dodging me, it or its belted kingfisher kin, for months. Not a terrific shot, I'll keep trying for better, but happy to capture it. #Hiking #Birding #AltText

A medium-sized water bird is perched on a thin limb with patches of of lichen, a stocky, slate blue bird with a large shaggy crest atop its head and a heavy bill that is black with a gray base. Its collar is white and it has a tan brown patch on its lower breast, which marks it as a female. Its tail is fairly long with black feather tips with little white dots. The background of the photo is blurry green vegetation.
