I am a good speller. Never had to work hard at it, my way of learning and remembering words seems to include their spellings right from the start.
But for a very few words, I have a problem.
Like the word achieve. I have to write it out and inspect it visually before I know how to spell it. Acheive nope achieve yep. My brain refuses to remember that it’s ie. Frustrating.
I used to have a similar problem with guard (gaurd nope guard yep) until I moved to the UK and started reading the Guardian. Daily exposure seemed to cure that one.
If I could visualise these words in my mind’s eye, this wouldn’t be a problem at all. But my mind’s eye is blind.
