Why, I remember when this was all just Arpanet. I'm over educated, opinionated, and quite possibly wrong about everything. Published author, banned comics publisher, ethicist, cranky old philosopher careered in information architecture.

@doctorwhom I mean, is it categorical? No. Some ex wives of billionaires are out here doing good stuff with the money.

Does having obscene amounts of money make you ethically questionable? I put it to you that the only answer is yes.

There is no ethical way to become a billionaire. There isn’t. There is no path to that goal that does not include hurting other people. The only response to having that much money is to distribute it to those who do not.

There should be 100% taxation above a certain point of wealth.

#Meta conducted a secretive program that directed hundreds of contractors to pose as children while bombarding its competitors’ #AI models with disturbing prompts ranging from suicide to cannibalism.

Internally known as “#Cannes,” the project, run by Meta contractor #Covalen, targeted #OpenAI’s #ChatGPT, #Google’s #Gemini, and #Character.AI chatbots using throwaway under-18 accounts.

Prompts focused on suicide and self-harm, eating disorders, and sex or romance, all written from the perspective of a child.

Wanna know where some child porn is coming from? #Zuckerberg is building it in to every AI he can pay to touch.

Eat the rich. Kill the #AIs. #Luddite the data centers.

Right? One side are immigrant grandparents, on the other are people who signed the Declaration, people who have fought in every conflict this country has chosen to wage, there are forts with my family name on them, my ancestral home is now a museum to the Underground Railroad, and we are all over the history of this country.

I absolutely hate what America represents to the world. We could have been our ambitions. We could have been the shining city on a hill, with equal rights, and pursuit of happiness. We could have shone the beacon of Enlightenment.

But, our start was polluted with slavery and racism, things we swept under the rug, things my ancestors despised but still agreed to allow to happen, to reach consensus.

Our end was predicated by our beginning. We can fix it. We can destroy what has been built by the hands of those who hate us, and we can, we really can be the good people we think we are. But only if we stop trying for consensus.

Y’all remember a ways back when I said 3 major #egg producers were scamming the country, and that #avianflu was not causing the price surges, it was price fixing, cause I can do basic addition?

And industry executives and analysts were saying that there was nothing to see except a supply shock of a disease killing lots of hens. As one industry executive put it at the time, it’s all just “supply disruption, ‘act of God’ type stuff.”

Yeah. It was a #conspiracy to fix prices. Emails between each other writing down the damn conspiracy. They made billions. Guess how much they have to pay in fines? If you guessed less than 1%, you’ve been paying attention to the #kakistocracy.

Eat the rich.

www.thebignewsletter.comCrime Pays: The Egg Bandits Made A Thousand Times the Fine They Just Paid for Price FixingThe Stringer Bell rule is obsolete, as Trump and state attorneys general let the egg producers off the hook for a brazen conspiracy. Still, egg prices did drop as a result of the investigation.

Y’all, a brief moment of history. This is what the bicentennial looked like on the Mall in DC. 1976. I was wee, and had been sent to spend the summer with my father who worked for Jimmy Carter. This was the summer before Carter was elected, Gerald Ford was the president. (Y’all remember Ford? He may have been the last relatively harmless republican. For a given value of relative. )

The bicentennial was everywhere. The whole country had a party, even though there were protests daily, and many conservatives clutched pearls about hippies on the mall.

Trump stole all of it. The joy, the party, the mall itself. He is a thief of all things bright and good, and brings only hate, corruption and despair. And Stephen miller…that abandoned Victorian doll haunted by unrepentant nazis.

We should take the country back for joy’s sake.

(Edit, Vietnam was over by 6 months, I was 9, time was fluid and we protested a lot of stuff.)

AP photograph of the national mall in Washington DC during the bicentennial celebration. It is wall to wall people, dancing and having fun. The crowd stretches through the entire mall.

So, the gang at #Mindgard, a British #AI security startup, discovered that you can break #ChatGPT by not uploading a picture and telling it to describe the picture you did not upload. Yes, that sounds a little nuts, but it works. I’ve tested it. (The prompt is more complicated than just that, but not much.) Mindgard’s technique only involved slightly changing a widely-shared prompt that was originally intended to produce humorous images.

Warning! I do not recommend testing this if you have triggers around #violence. This can and has generated very disturbing results. Results in the article have been sanitized.
