JD Vance isn't actually Catholic, and clearly does not understand the Roman Catholic faith. He's not a true convert.
Vance remains an American Protestant who believes any two bit huckster with a Trump bible can declare himself a minister or pastor of his own flock equal in theology to the Pope. Vance believes he can declare a new interpretive religion in opposition to Rome as a Roman Catholic. That he can consecrate a Eucharist at home and give it to himself, changing bread into the actual (not symbolic) body of Christ. This is a Protestant, not Catholic, ethos aka Martin Luther and King Henry VIII. Vance doesn't get the difference. It's why he argues with and scolds the Pope as if Roman Catholicism is like snake handling Pentecostalism,
the faith he grew up in. (No surprise.)

A lot of American Catholics renounced their faith as principled opposition to Rome over abortion. They were denied communion. JD wants to have it both ways.
JD Vance is lying about his Catholic faith. He performs Catholicism like the Pentecostal he remains. Nothing wrong with Pentecostals or evangelical Bible-based religions - they just aren't Catholics.
