We actually were lucky yesterday and during much of the day today, but random fireworks are ramping up now. There have been just enough booms and crashes during today that Joule has wanted to stay in the basement. I did get her up and out once this afternoon, so she probably won't get desperate before things settle down around midnight.
The city fireworks are at 9:45 just 2 blocks from our house. I'll go downstairs with her then. I have a frozen kong for her, but she may be 2 stressed to eat it then.
It will take her a couple days to settle down, but she'll be fine.
I understand. I'm at work, and my dog Jaxon is at home, in his crate. I'm sure he's completely freaked out, because our neighbors love bottle rockets and ladyfingers 😞
I feel for you, and Joule. They don't understand what is happening. Jaxon is already on a prescription for anxiety. It helps for daily life but not much for fireworks (or other explosions.)
Does anything help Joule? Jaxon might not eat or drink water tonight. He might not be able to sleep, either.
@Skwerlgyrl Joule is doing better than previous Fourths. She's staying in her crate in the basement but doesn't seem panicky, and she even has been working away at a frozen kong during the city's fireworks show.
Lactium seems to work better for her than other calming supplements, and she's been getting it in her breakfast and dinner for the last several days. Lactium is the active ingredient in Vetoquinol's Zylkene, but I give her Swanson Anti-Stress Lactium, which is the same stuff at lower cost.
I hope Jaxon does better than you expect tonight. Poor dog (and poor you being concerned for him).
