@VWDasher @Natasha_Jay A really big win this time for the designers playing the ancient "what can we get past the bosses?" game.

Profile picture: street furniture - I take pictures of interesting street furniture when travelling. In this context it *is* appropriate for the street lighting columns to be gold plated.

@si_irini @WestLawns Oh, I have no interest in the foot-the-ball, but if there's an opportunity to make money by betting on how corrupt FIFA and the USA can manage to be between them ... π€£

@si_irini What are the betting sites saying about the USA winning the cup?
Replying to @VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social
@VeroniqueB99 This is a joke about Americans using antique units which nobody else understands?

@Natasha_Jay Don't worry, humanities students are (I'm told by an academic) also using AI to write their essays.

@furniturelink Yeah. It's quite difficult to buy a car that isn't grey these days.
But, in the UK in particular, why would anyone want to be driving a grey car along a grey road against a grey sky?
Is this the car industry trying to maximise crashes and thus sales of new cars, or what?

@ginaintheburg @angry_staffer @textfiles Turn it up another couple of degrees ...
... and you won't need to wear a shirt, thus you won't have to launder it, thus saving even more energy.

@selfe.bsky.social He's just got one step to go ... once Farridge *is* a convicted criminal he can be elected president for life, like his mate Trump.

@juergen_hubert I can assure you that CUP cared about the physical books - the University Library wanted them back undamaged.

@juergen_hubert "It includes a scanner that reads individual pages of books at high speed. These pages were previously removed from bound books."
Other, non-destructive, scanning technologies exist, such as that used to create the Cambridge Library Collection. But the process costs more.
