The more I try to parse the liberal mindset, the more I become convinced elites are elites, they're a hive mind of affluent white people who don't want things to change, and the only difference between the liberal and conservative ones is the liberals have a ready made army of apologists online.

@gwynnion I think there's truth to that. There's a certain combination of being disconnected from the lived reality of most people while also being thoroughly convinced that you're smart/wise/whatever enough to decide things on their behalf that they all share. And when their ideas run face first into reality, we see roughly the same response. And that response is never apologizing and yielding power.

@gwynnion To that last bit, one of the things that drives me nuts the most is when one of these people "reforms" and "learns better". They still hold onto power. They still think they know better and can make decisions on other people's behalf. Maybe they couldn't before but now that they've learned XYZ, they're fine!

I will never believe the "apology" of an elite unless it's accompanied with stepping away from power permanently. It's not enough to realize that you fucked up other people's lives. They need to realize that their power grabbing and desire to be in charge WAS the problem and they need to walk away.
