since early in my career, i've set obvious hostnames and had the hostname in my shell command line prompt so it's really clear where i am. even with that, i have had some close calls. :)

I recently restarted a process in production when I had intended to do so in staging. Luckily no harm was done as the restart was no more disruptive than the automated deployments which happens multiple times of days.

I use different color backgrounds in my terminals to keep them straight and remind me before doing something disruptive: red for prod, blue for test and green for internal VMs, charcoal for local terminals.
