From last September at Acadia National Park. They had been running rescue training exercises, so installed hardware had been flagged for the trainees. Apparently there are places in the park where visitors need rescuing frequently enough that they install things ropes can be hooked into. Generally speaking, if you see something this, do not go any closer to the edge!

A loop bolted into a hunk of granite poking up from the ground, autumn-brown grasses behind. It has safety orange tape tied onto it to make it easier to find.
