@RueNahcMohr i think you just have to not worry about that. It's just a number. The important thing is whether you're having a good time with people you like on here
@MLE_online its sort of related, some people are just in the system forwarding things they think are cool but dont understand and serve as propagators to people who do understand and want to see more about the person behind it.

@RueNahcMohr Making stuff just for the sake of it has always been a thing, but on Twitter, there was a strong element of commercialism, entrpreneurism, and influencerism infused into it.
Mastodon isn't the right place for those things. Things here are too quiet and slow for that.
If you're looking for a maker community of the scale that existed on twitter, you're not going to get it here.
There are still plenty of the commercially-minded makers on twitter, and you'll still get more reach there than you will here -- if that's what you want.
If you don't want to be on twitter, you just have put up with things being different here.
@MLE_online :] I'm fine with the difference. The commercialism thing puts a lot of nasty sharp edges on cool makes, which is sad, cause it should be all open and community and fun.
So here is an experiment for you might try Rue. You've got 662 followers but you only follow 92. What if you followed back all of the people who follow you? Then when they did a make, perhaps inspired by something you did, it would show up in your feed. As it is, if you don't follow someone in the Fediverse, and no one else on your server instance does, you just won't see their posts. That is one of the differences between here and twitter/bluesky.
@ChuckMcManis @MLE_online I have a bit of a formula for the people I follow. Admittedly, there are some folks who have some REALLY awesome posts, but are mostly on about politics or food. I have to keep distance from politics as I get angry easy.
@RueNahcMohr I feel ya on how easy it is to get angry. Muting words is a pretty cool thing that works well here. Just saying that unlike other social networks you are likely not seeing a lot of stuff you would be interested in because you don't follow people. Curating that list, especially with selective word muting, can really give you a great experience.

@ChuckMcManis @MLE_online Often I explore new faces. I know there are a lot more great makers out there and wow they are hard to find. I should also note that some of the people I dont follow, but do awesome things from time to time, I reply on boosts from the people I do follow, to see.
