Un-curious people are a mystery to me - how can you live your life and not ask questions about STUFF

The place I have been going to yoga is in a basement of this very old building (for Toronto standards). One of the rooms looks like a vault. I asked one of the instructors - “this looks like some sort of vault” and they said “I never thought about it, yeah, this door is very big and heavy”

So I did my research (tm)

It’s a heritage building, it used to be part of the The E.W. Gillett Company built in 1910-12 and it was not uncommon for those to have vaults in the lower floors to keep financials, or even money.

I found this image of a postcard of how it used to look like. Now it’s offices and things like yoga studios

Be curious. It’s fun to find out what things are and where they came from

A postcard from 1910s depicting the EW Gillett company complex in Liberty Village, Toronto. An illustration of a block of brick buildings, one of them has a tall chimney, one of them reads “Magic Baking Powder” and the other “Royal Yeast Cakes”. On the left there is a little train (way too small for the size of the building but there used to be train tracks there) and some very tiny cars. I want a print of this
