The struggle of being the chronically online person in all your relationships: when somebody sends you some breaking news, you are (internally) like, “Yes, I know. Indeed, I’ve reacted, I’ve processed, and I’ve already read about 5000 words on this, as this was 20 minutes ago.”
In the episode (for which he shaved his signature beard), Reiner plays a retiring President Washington, insisting that the peaceful transfer of power is a hallmark of democracy. That prompts incredulity from those gathered.
"Well, what if there’s some a--hole in office, some narcissistic p---k who doesn’t follow the Constitution?" asks a character played by David. "He could use the presidency to enrich himself and his family. He could send troops into American cities to terrorize and even kill American citizens, all to distract from the fact that he's friends with a pedophile!" https://www.goldderby.com/tv/2026/rob-reiner-final-role-in-larry-david-pursuit-of-unhappiness-emmy-chances/

@Viss I don't know how it compares to wet bulb, they're a bit different, but heat index here has got up to 109F in past few days. I think wet bulb at a lower temp can be just as dangerous as heat index at a higher temp or something like that...

@BrewtBlacklist @Pissgums @Remittancegirl @Raz At first I was confused by this because I recently heard James Cameron is making Joe Abercrombie's book The Devils into a movie. Which will be spectacular, I'm certain.

@sheilasmall That doesn't explain what she's discussing with the Chinese VP, which I think we can assume isn't a good thing

@wcbdata Yeah ok this particular point is the one that makes the argument for me. Good enough for deletion.

@wcbdata It really seemed to me to be the exact opposite of that. But I guess because I think there's a difference between Democratic Socialists and socialism

@wcbdata Is there no conflict? The right wing is lately dredging up a lot of red scare language, which is itself disinformation.

@wcbdata Hmmm, ok thanks
Is Mitch dead? Vegetative? Functional in any way? He definitely is not able to fulfill the requirements of his office. So the Republicans will simply hide the truth, because if they learned anything from Mitch, it is that they can do anything they want.

@VeroniqueB99 It's funny because both pro- and anti-democracy people (i.e., the rational people and the violent nutters) will buy these. Great for sales.

I was just reminded of the time I landed in Seoul with a govt delegation and somehow, for some reason, the Korean media had been tipped off about the visit and there were a bunch of camera people circling around the gate as we entered the terminal. I was mortified and kept turning away from the cameras, which no doubt made me stand out like a sore thumb but I couldn't help myself. I figured at least some of the media were intelligence collectors...looking back on it, why would they be, who'd care? I don't even know why the media would've cared, but I can't speak for Korean interests. I was unnecessarily paranoid, but I also really hate having pictures taken of me. Other than that it was an enjoyable trip.

@Bergmolch Yeah. When I see cameras in public I turn away. I really liked when we were all wearing masks because of that.
How do bluejays do it? I never see a bluejay around my yard, ever. Except in that once or twice a year splurge when I get peanuts. I put peanuts out there in one of the feeders and there are like immediately 10 bluejays swarming. How do I never see them at all if they are always there to clock it when a peanut appears? They're big, loud birds. I swear they are simply not anywhere in the vicinity until the peanuts happen, and then it's instantaneous.

@Bergmolch People in public can be photographed without their permission. If not, the media would hardly be able to publish any photographs of current events.
